This year has saw me jumping from horror and blaxploitation, my two biggest loves, to more obscure exploitation and sexploitation films.  I really got into these earlier in 2019 when I went on a Vinegar Syndrome and American Genre Film Archive binge.  I absolutely loved the cheap and cheesy films that I was watching and soon found myself adding more and more to my collection.  Last month Vinegar Syndrome announced two new blu releases.  The first is the sexploitation film Justine the second was a double feature with Hard Soap. Hard Soap and Disco Lady.  After watching the extremely fun Hard Soap I decided that it made perfect sense to follow that one up with the second film Disco Lady.  This was one I had seen in a tape collecting group sometime back so I was excited to check it out.
The film follows several people who visit the disco on New Years Eve to party it up and await the countdown.  However, dancing and drinks are not the only items on the menu.  Many of the people the film follows quickly finds themselves in sexual situations before the movie strikes midnight.

When I was younger I hated movies released pre-1980s but as I've gotten older I've found myself actually preferring 70s cinema almost as much as I love 80s.  Disco Lady looked fun when I saw the VHS in the trading group and it did live up to my expectations.  The acting in this one is not amazing by any means but it works for a sleazy skin flick.  The characters are not as fun as Hard Soap but the cast does the best with what they were given.  The story for this one is simple but works.  Put a bunch of pervs in a disco on New Years Eve and let them go wild.  Simple and effective especially for a sexploitation flick.  The movie is fairly fast paced and the dialogue heavy scenes are not as boring as one would think.  The story does come to an overall arch which was surprising.  As far as I will go without giving the little twist away.  Finally, there is not blood in this one as you would have guessed.  However, if blood and disco money shots are up your alley then you have found your new favorite film.  Overall, Disco Lady is another fun watch that works great as a double feature with Hard Soap.   Bob Chinn is a solid sexploitation director and this is another great example of that.  Check it out now on blu from Vin Syn!
