The last three days has been full of Nazi surprises for me.  A few weeks back I was asked to review the short Wolves which centered around an Allied fighter pilot who was shot down in Axis controlled land where he had to fight for his life and the life of a little girl he found after crash landing.  After watching that well made period piece I moved on to a recent Vinegar Syndrome release.  Much like Wolves, I was under the impression it was a horror film.  The film, Blue Ice, had new bluray artwork that looked dark, brooding, and mysterious much like the artwork of the movies of the 70s.  I was surprised to find that this was an erotic drama centered around a detective searching for an ancient book while on the run from Nazis.  I want to thank Vin Syn for once again hooking me up with another film to review.
The film begins with the Nazi party searching for an ancient book of untold power.  After hunting for centuries they are finally close to grabbing it only to be cut short by a detective hired by a wealthy man to find the same book.  Their paths intertwine and soon a supernatural element is exposed and threatens everyone's life.

Blue Ice just happened to be the third film I watched about Nazis in just as many days.  The film just happened to be the more entertaining of the three films as well.  Though it was shocking to discover it was not a horror film but an erotic drama it still delivered an entertaining film.  The acting in this one is pretty solid.  In fact, it is one of the better acted sexploitation flicks that I have seen the 5 or so years that I have been writing reviews.  Granted I focus mostly on horror but I have seen and reviewed several dozen sexploitation flicks.  The story for this one is a mash up of any detective noir film and any modern Naziploitation flick.  We have a detective tasked with finding something for a wealthy client, similar to Kill Me Again, Dixie Ray Hollywood Star and hundreds more, but sets itself apart from the others with the addition of Nazis and the supernatural element.  It was fun and definitely held my attention.  Finally, those of you looking for gore and blood will be disappointed.  However, if you are looking for a story driven sexual romp then this one is up your alley.  Overall, Blue Ice was not the horror film I was expecting. However, what I got was a pretty fun sexploitation full of sex, Nazis, and interesting characters.  This one needs to be in any exploitation fan's collection.  Check it out.

Rating (out of 5):
It's rare that I get asked to review films outside of horror.  Don't get me wrong, I love horror and I'm hard pressed to find someone that loves the genre more than me but sometimes its nice to take a break away from horror and check out something else.  A few weeks back the Horror Society Facebook page was contacted by director Alvaro Rodriguez Areny asking if we would check out his new short Wolves.  Thinking I was in for a werewolf or when natures attack short but I was wrong.  I was actually being treated to a World War II period peace.  Thank you Alvaro for reaching out to Horror Society and asking us to check out your short!
The short follows a fighter pilot who is crash landing in the wilderness of Germany.  He is able to escape the wreckage and is now injured.  He comes across a farm house and ventures inside where he finds a gun and a small child hiding under the bed.  He is soon confronted by a Nazi soldier.  He is able to deal with the first solider but is shot by the second when he is forced to reload his shotgun.  He shoots the second solider and the child hiding under the bed is able to escape but is followed by the sounds of wolves.
I rarely check the messages on the Horror Society Facebook page but when I do I usually find a few filmmakers asking us to check out their films.  Most are found footage or no budget torture porn but I have never seen a filmmaker reach out to us to check out their war film.  With that being said, I am glad they did.  The acting in this one is solid.  The cast keep their performances to a minimum and it works for the type of film this is.  There is no over-dramatic scenes and just enough cast actions to drive the story on home.  The cast works very well with each other which is astounding considering they use body language and not dialogue.  The story for this one is simple and works very well for a short.  The film is fantastic as a period piece but the short length does raise some questions.  How was he shot down, what was the wolves, what happened to the little girl?  A little more could have been added to answer these questions.  Finally, the film does have a little blood and some on screen deaths but they are nothing memorable or cringe worthy.  The kills we get are gun related and lackluster.   They fit the film very well but horror fans want more blood than what we got.  Overall, Wolves is a phenomenal short that packs the right punch.  It may not be horror but it was still fun to watch.  Check it out!

Genre - Horror
Tagline - "I don't deserve to stay here"

Rating (out of 5):
This is it.  The day I have been waiting for almost a week now.  Just a day or so shy of a week ago I started watching and reviewing the Vomit Gore series from Lucifer Valentine.  I ended up with all four of the feature length films over the years but had no interest in watching them.  That changed when Black Lava sent over the Lucifer Valentine short A Perfect Child of Satan which is a supplemental short to the series but not actually a part of it.  After receiving the short I decided it was time to watch the entire series before I gave the short a chance.  Though it is not part of the horror I enjoy I am still thankful that Black Lava hooked me up.  Thanks guys!
The film follows The severe torture and dismemberment of several women at the hands of a young woman.  We learn that the woman is Angela and we are witnessing her own hell where she tortures and kills others.

The Vomit Gore series has been interesting that is for sure.  What impresses me the most isn't the films themselves but the fans.  People are obsessed with these films.  To the point that several have the film's characters and artwork tattooed on them.  Now, I have horror icons tattooed on my flesh but I would never in a million years get something this disgusting tattooed on my body.  These films are the farthest thing from entertaining.  The acting in this one is just like the first two films.  We get someone cutting and dismembering others with no form of acting to be seen.  It's more than one person, the one behind the camera, acting out a sexual fantasy like the first two films but it's still not like an actual horror movie which makes it rough to watch.  You can't blame the cast for the way the film is set up but it makes one wonder why anyone would agree to it.  The story for this one is a little more than what we got in Slaughtered Vomit Dolls and ReGOREgitated Sacrifice but it is tossed together in such a way that the viewer has no idea what is going on.  The film is random scenes that do not feel connected in any way and the only way I was able to dictate any sort of story was from the imdb page while getting the cast info.  Finally, the film returns to it's gory roots and delivers on the kills and gore.  It looks great but doesn't fit any sort of story line.  The effects are top notch like always but go unchecked by the film's lack of a story to tie the gore to.  Overall, Vomit Gore 4 is another miss.  The film has some of the greatest gore I have seen in indie cinema but the lack of a story and traditional cast makes it almost impossible to watch.  Skip it.

A Perfect Child of Satan

Director - Lucifer Valentine (Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, Slow Torture Puke Chamber)
Starring - Chelsea Chainsaw (The Cumming of Jizzus)
Release Date - 2012
Genre - Horror
Format - DVD (Personal Collection) (Screener)

Rating (out of 5):

I can see the light at the end of the tunnel!  A few days ago I received A Perfect Child of Satan from my friends over at Black Lava Entertainment.  This short is part of the Vomit Gore series from experimental filmmaker Lucifer Valentine.  When I received the film for review I decided it was the perfect time to check out the other Vomit Gore films and review them.  If you have read my reviews for the other films then you would have learned that I was not a fan of the other three movies that I saw prior to this one.  I also learned that APCoS is not the newest film in the series but actually a short supplemental piece that was released after the first three films and the newest film that was released last year.  Thanks Thomas and the Black Lava gang for sending the film my way!
The film follows Sarah (Chainsaw).  Sarah is a prostitute that has became infatuated with a man she met online.  All she can do it think about him and the things she would like to do to him.  When they finally meet she quickly learns that when something seems too good to be true that's because it is.

A few people that have read my previous reviews for the Vomit Gore series came at me with some hostility.  In my reviews I mentioned that I had no desire to see these films.  This is true and I stand by those words.  However, that doesn't mean that I immediately passed judgement on them before seeing them.  I have seen some films in the past that really surprised me by how awesome they were.  The premise just didn't sound that interesting or entertaining to me so people thought I was automatically going to hate it.  I went into it with an open mind and found myself realizing that what I thought was going to happen from the beginning really was happening.  Now, as for A Perfect Child of Satan.  It was an improvement over the other films but still nothing memorable or noteworthy.  The acting in this one is actually good enough to hold the viewer's attention which is more than can be said about the other films.  Chelsea Chainsaw (how very scene kid of her) is able to put on a one man show and still hold the viewer's attention.  That is very rare to see a movie pull that off with just one person.  she was great and I'm glad to see her replace Lavey from the first two films.  The story for this one is very flat and linear but somewhat worked as a short.  The story is not original or profound.  It almost went the distance but the ending was a big let down.  She gets roughed up a bit and then it ends.  What a waste of twenty minutes.  Finally, the film doesn't really have any real on screen kills or practical effects.  We get some talking, a little tough love before she is battered and the film ends.  Where the other's lacked story and was filled with gore this one is story focused and void of kills.  If Valentine could find the happy medium between story and gore we would have one hell of a movie.  Overall, A Perfect Child of Satan is better than Slaughtered Vomit Dolls and ReGOREgitated Sacrifice.  With that being said, the film failed to offer up closure and gore.  For a Vomit Gore entry we don't get the gore portion one would expect.  This one is at least worth one view but don't expect much from it.

Slow Torture Puke Chamber

Director - Lucifer Valentine (Black Metal Veins, Slaughtered Vomit Dolls)
Starring Ameara Lavey (Slaughtered Vomit Dolls, ReGOREgitated Sacrifice), Hope Likens, and Hank Skinny
Release Date - 2010
Genre - Horror
Format - DVD (Personal Collection)

Rating (out of 5):

My bad movie slump continues as I continue to work on the Lucifer Valentine Vomit Gore series.  Most of you know this by now but I feel the need to clarify how much I dislike extreme horror movies that offer up shock with no story.  Extreme does have it's place in the horror world but we need story.  When I turn on a flick and it immediately gets to torture and rape with no explanation as to why usually results in the film getting a negative review.  That is the Vomit Gore series.  It has no linear story and consists mostly of vomit, murder, and masturbation.  Today, we move on to the third installment of the film, Slow Torture Puke Chamber.
The film, once again, follows a tortured bulimic prostitute (Lavey in flashbacks, Likens in new scenes) who spirals out of control while sporadically talking about Satan, murder, and vomiting.

The Vomit Gores series feels like it was made by someone wanting to live out a fetish fantasy while filming it for other to share in on it.  They all fail as a horror movie but if you have deep, dark fantasies then they may be entertaining.  For me, they are not.  The acting in this one is actually a step up from the first.  The film offers up a few scenes that flow like an actual movie and not an amateur porn.  The scenes are short but they do show that Hope Likens could be in other indie horror flicks if she dedicates herself to them.  The story for this one is more of the same but we do get more gore scenes over the vomiting scenes which was a plus.  The film could be enjoyable if we had something to tie them all together instead of just scenes of vomit broken up with scenes of death.  Finally, this one has some amazing fucking kills.  It could easily be one of the most brutal horror films I have ever seen if you only knew what the fuck is going on.  The effects are great and the kills are fabulous.  The only downside is they share screen time with an incoherent story.  Overall, Slow Torture Puke Chamber is an improvement over the first two film.  The story is not there but the kills and effects are fantastic.  The film was a step forward from the others but a turd is still a turd.
