Several months ago I went on an Ellie Church bender.  I went through all the films in my collection and pulled the films starring Ellie Church out to watch.  This started with Skeletons in the Closet and High on the Hog.  Both were a bit of a let down but that didn't stop me from continuing my movie marathon.  I followed those two up with Plank Face, Harvest Lake, The Bad Man, and Space Babes from Outer Space.  These were all very entertaining films.  Some I liked more than others but they were all fun.  The reason I pulled these out to watch was because director Brian Williams had just launched a crowdfunding campaign for his new stoner comedy Jessie's Super Normal Regular Average Day starring Church.  I can't pass up a good stoner comedy so I went ahead and pre-ordered a copy through the campaign.  Glad I did because this one was extremely fun.
The film follows stoner Jessie (Church) who plans on spending her day in bed getting baked but she is tossed into a chaotic and mayhem fueled fever dream when the televangelist starts speaking to her directly through the television and then her best friend and roommate tries to kick her ass.  Soon she discovers that everything she has been told is a lie and is sent on a quest to kill God where she meets a couch driving drug abuser, topless nuns wielding weapons, and a psychedelic snail.
When you toss in Jessie's Super Normal Regular Average Day you can expect a movie that fits the title.  Hell, this one could have easily been called Jessie's Super Normal Regular Average Movie.  The movie is bat shit insane and if I had to pick one word to describe it I would choose unforgettable.  You wont find another film like it.  The acting in this one is pretty fucking solid.  The characters are all fucking funny and stand out from one another for different reasons.  The character of Jessie, brought to life by Ellie Church, carries the film and holds the story together.  Her character is fun and she does a fantastic job with it.  However, my favorite performance comes from Jett Bryant.  He became one of my favorite indie actors after Dear God No! but he is severely underutilized in several of the other films I've seen him in.  Here he is able to deliver another memorable performance in what would be my favorite character in this entire film.  The supporting cast is great as well.  Allison Maier, along with the smoking hot topless nuns (which I believe is portrayed by just one actress), were great.  Their performances were nothing short of fantastic.  The story for this one is fucking fantastic but does have a few drawbacks.  I loved the trippy characters and the look of the film.  After watching this one I had a strong urge to find my copies of Joe's Apartment and Bio-Dome.  It feels like a mid-90s stoner comedy and I fucking love that.  However, the story does need a little work.  Some of the running gags throughout the film was stretched a little thin.  I'm referring to the "who?" remake many would ask when a name was mentioned along with the "everything you know is a lie" aspect.  These were funny the first two or three times but after that it the joke had ran it's course.  With that being said, the remainder of the story has me sold on it.  I love how trippy, chaotic, and unpredictable the film is.  The movie has tons of laughs and the imagery draws you in.  Finally, if you want blood and gore you wont find it here.  The film makes good use of green screens and visual effects but those wanting some blood will truly be disappointed here.  Overall, Jessie's Super Normal Regular Average Day is an unforgettable stoner comedy that has some highly imaginative characters that makes the film so much fun.  The story does have a few hiccups but nothing you can't look passed.  I highly recommend checking this one out.
