Horror fans are ruthless.  Most will find any reason to bitch about a film just to start an argument.  If films are unoriginal and fun then the horror smart asses have nothing to say about it but if the film is bad, regardless of originality, they come out of the wood works to bitch and moan.  Most tend to watch the bigger budget flicks that I feel lack originality and personality while other, the more happier horror fans, ride the indie wave.  Indie films tend to be more balls out and have more original ideas that often flirt with bat shit crazy.  One of the films I have been hearing a lot about lately is titled Blood Soaked.  I heard people talk about the film and I heard them talk about it being a lesbian nazi zombie movie.  This really intrigued me so I reached out to Wild Eye who was handling the release and they were kind enough to send me a copy to review.  Thanks again Wild Eye.
The film follows a college freshman who meets a college lesbian (those of you that went to college knows exactly what I'm talking about) and the two hit it off. They do the whole cuddle thing and have romantic picnics.  One day while traveling down a deserted road they have a run in with an animal and hit it.  Blood splatters into the car and they pull off the road to wipe themselves down.  While there a car passes them and turns around to stop to see if they need help.  Two blonde hair and blue-eyed women get out and insult the two lovers before speeding off.  The two lovers get in the car and start back home when the two blondes start harassing them with their car forcing them to pull off the road again.  The two blondes, sisters, get out of the car and taunt the lesbians with slurs and other vulgarities before killing the freshman's lover with a bullet to the head.  They then torment and torture the college freshman and reveal that they are secretly Nazis and their deceased father has a serum that can reanimate the dead.  They are making an undead army to bring the Nazi party and the perfect race (blonde hair and blue eyes) to the top of world domination.  The young college freshman is then tortured and housed with the zombies until she finally sees an opening and takes it killing her two captures.
Sometimes an extremely original film, like Blood Soaked, has a stupendous amount of potential but just can't pull the delivery off that well.  Blood Soaked had all the ingredients to make it a film of the ages but it just went about it all wrong.  It is a solid film but my biggest complaint is the black and white scenes that run most of the film.  I don't mind black and white films.  Hell, I love em but these black and white scenes were just too damn dark to see the real story unfold in each scene.  A lighter black and white image would have helped this film out a ton.  The acting in this was great and made the film fun to watch.  Every character was cast perfectly and all put their own spin on the character making it their own.  The cast is also talented at getting physical.  I have seen so many indie flicks with horrible fight scenes but this film did not.  The story for this one is bat-shit crazy that rolls off the screen like a roller coaster ride.  The story is easily one of the wildest I have seen this year.  I just wish they didn't try to go the artsy route with the extremely dark black and white scenes.  Finally, the film has a ton of great special effects with a majority of them being practical.  The on screen kills and the undead all look great.  Some real talent went into the film to make it not look cheap and it worked.  Overall, Blood Soaked is a very imaginative film that has everything from fake college lesbians to Nazi blondes with an undead army.  If I can say anything about this film is that it is truly a unique movie watching experience.  If you can handle the dark black and white scenes then you will see a true indie gem.  Check it out!
