Werewolves are truly the underdogs (pun intended) of the horror genre.  Werewolves were always fan favorites until the 90s hit when companies and filmmakers learned they could create a shitty CGI werewolf cheaper than they could using practical effects and have it rival the amazing transformation scenes seen in The Howling and An American Werewolf in London.  Since the turn of the 90s the werewolf sub-genre has became a touchy subject for horror fans with so many shitty CGI films being pumped out which forces the viewer to distrust the sub-genre altogether which is a damn shame because some really great werewolf flicks are still being released with great practical effects and in some cases some are being released that are unique altogether like one of Wild Eye's newest releases.  A few months back I was sent word that Wild Eye was releasing President Wolfman on DVD.  I dig werewolf flicks so I reached out to them and they were kind enough to hook me up with a review copy!  Thanks Wild Eye!
The film follows America as the then active president, John Wolfman,  is bitten by a werewolf and turns into one when the moon is full.  This coincides with a bill he is trying to stop that will merge the U.S. with China and Wolfman is the only person that can stop it.  As the wolf inside him takes over, other politicians in D.C. are trying to get him removed from office so the bill can pass and they can cash their fat checks written by the Chinese.

In 1966 director, actor, and comedian Woody Allen took the Japanese James Bond clone International Secret Police and re-dubbed it to create an entirely different movie.  This would be done several other times over the years with my favorite belonging to (sit back because this title is a doozy)  Night of the Day of the Dawn of the Son of the Bride of the Return of the Revenge of the Terror of the Attack of the Evil, Mutant, Alien, Flesh Eating, Hellbound, Zombified Living Dead Part 2 which is a re-dubbed take on Night of the Living Dead with no real plot but lots of laughs.  President Wolfman followed in the same footsteps by piecing together footage from several public domain films with a bulk of the film coming from The Werewolf of Washington.  You can't really judge the acting in this one where the film is just pieced together from various segments from news reels and various films.  The voice acting, however, is fun and the cast behind the voices do a great job at keeping the scenes up beat and fun the watch.  The story for this one is a full fledged Troma-esque story that I loved, in general, but it did have some flaws.  The story following the president after he is bitten while the Chinese tries to legally take control of American is pure genius and political satire at it's finest.  Sadly, due to the splicing of so many different pieces of source material, it is hard to actually follow this story which results in the viewer wondering off and losing focus on the film.  This happened to me several times throughout watching this one and it makes it even more difficult to watch when the scene is dry with no humor.  Finally, those of you horror hounds looking for blood and gore clearly missed what this film is all about.  This film does have a few on screen kills but they lack the carnage we come to expect from werewolf flicks.  However, if you want some jokes and cheesy stock footage then you're in luck.  Overall, President Wolfman is a fun film that delivers on the laughs but not much else.  If you are wanting to watch something cheap for a quick laugh then toss this one in.  However, you hardcore horror fans may not find the gore you are looking for with this one but I still recommend it!
