Halloween is fast approaching which is usually the time I dive deep into horror movies but I had to take a break from the macabre. Why you ask? Well, because one of my favorite filmmakers has just released a new film. Richard Griffin is a man who I can spend all day praising but I won't. I don't have the time but when it comes to horror he has made many unforgettable contributions. Saying I'm a fan of his is truly an understatement. Sometime ago Griffin announced word he was working on a new comedy titled Strapped for Danger. His last two comedies, Accidental Incest and A Midsummer Night's Dream, were both fantastic. His comical timing is perfect and he always employs the best cast in indie cinema. When Strapped for Danger was finished he reached out to me to check it out. Halloween flicks had to be placed on hold for a Griffin film. Thank you Richard for allowing me the opportunity to check this one out!
The film follows three male strippers who are underpaid and fed up. One night during their routine they hold the place up and make off with some serious cash and a cop held hostage. The flee to Chuck's (one of the strippers) old frat house where he has stashed some plane tickets. What they encounter is a world of hard male bodies and repressed sexual urges before they lose their plane tickets and are forced to run from the law.
Richard is one of my favorite filmmakers and for good reason. He doesn't follow trends. When he has a story he thinks deserves telling he tells it. If you look at his career you will see some very unique and imaginative films. Strapped for Danger was no exception. I found myself laughing at almost every scene. Also, the film has beautiful cinematography as always. The acting in this is phenomenal which is something I expect from a Scorpio film. The cast does a tremendous job at bringing their characters to life. They all have their own personalities and not easy to forget. Personally, I believe Pinata Debris needs their own movie and we need to make that shit happen. The cast did a great job and made the movie a really fun experience. The story for this one is comedy gold and could easily pass as a raunchy teen sex comedy from the 80s. The film has plenty of crude humor, awesome one liners, and characters that will possibly stand the test of time. Every scene is delivered flawlessly with the punch line hitting their marks and never a dull moment. If you can't laugh at this movie then you are an asshole and I don't like you. Finally, this isn't one of the blood splatter horror flicks Richard is known for. Instead, it is a comedy that really packs a punch. The film does have more male nudity than I'd shake my pecker at but I'm an adult and comfortable in my sexuality where it doesn't bother me. Overall, Strapped for Danger is a fun experience. The film is hilarious, raunchy, and even offensive to some which makes this a work of art if you ask me.
