Most of you know by now that I'm a huge fan of Marvel.  I absolutely love what Marvel has done to comics and how they changed the game with their big budget superhero movies.  I can't say enough good things about Marvel but what I rarely talk about is my love for Flash and Green Lantern.  As much as I love Marvel my love for Flash and Green Lantern trumps that.  With the DCU not doing the best, even though I enjoy the movies, DC has turned up their animated film game.  I recently got on the bandwagon after getting Justice League Dark for Christmas and then reviewed Gotham by Gaslight.  Both of these were fucking fantastic and showed that DC wasn't too chicken shit to step outside their comfort zone and give fans stories that aren't the typical origins story.  Recently I caught wind that the Suicide Squad was getting their own animated movie, Hell to Pay.  I wasn't too familiar with the Suicide Squad but I did like the movie (fuck you if you didn't) and requested a review copy.  Thank you Gary for the hook up.
The film follows director of the Suicide Squad Amanda Waller who calls together her team of criminals to do another suicide mission for time off their prison sentence.  They do so and they are sent to retrieve a card that was said to grant the one holding it a pass to heaven when they die.  Waller wants the card for obvious reasons so she sends out Bronze Tiger, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Killer Frost, Copperhead, and Captain Boomerang.  What they don't know is that Professor Zoom, Blockbuster, Banshee, and Scandal Savage are all looking for the card as well resulting in backstabbing, death, and explosions.
I went into this one knowing very little about Suicide Squad other than what I learned from the film starring Will Smith.  I knew I would love it and I was right.  This animated flick was fantastic.  The voice acting was solid for the most part.  Christian Slater voices Deadshot which is the film's titular character.  Sadly, his voice just didn't fit the character.  I always associate Christian Slater and his voice with the side kick role.  Its not very demanding or manly so hearing him as Deadshot was a bit of a let down.  However, the rest of the cast fit their characters perfectly which made up for Slater's voice work.  The story for this one brought together a team made famous by the film but mixed it up with even more characters that most don't know about.  The action in this one is a little underplayed but the story and character development is interesting enough to hold the viewer's attention.  Finally, this one does have some animated violence.  The kills we get are actually rather gruesome considering its animated but nothing most horror fans haven't seen before.  Overall, Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is a fucking fun watch.  Horror and sci-fi may be my bread and beer but I am loving these animated DC flicks so check it out.
