Since the house fire I've had more time than usual. I've focused most of that time on getting caught up on reviews and spending time with my family. While going through the stuff that needed reviewed I noticed I had a bunch of VCI Entertainment blus that I completely forgot about. After making my way through several horror flicks I decided to stop this marathon on the brucesploitation flick Bruce's Deadly Fingers. After Bruce Lee rose to popularity the world started craving these Hong Kong based martial arts films. After his death there was a rise of Bruce Lee impersonators and in 1976 an impersonator, Bruce Le, starred in Bruce's Deadly Fingers which was recently released on blu from VCI. Thank you MVD for sending this one my way.
The film follows a martial arts expert (Le) as he tries to rescue his ex-girlfriend who was kidnapped by a kingpin and his kung fu goons. With the help of his friends, who are also martial artists, they must rescue her and retrieve the ancient book that can turn the practitioner into a deadly weapon just by using their fingers.
I love cheesy 70s and 80s films that you can't find everyday at Wal-Mart. Some of my favorite movies are movies I've found for a few cents on VHS when video stores were closing. These movies were hardly rented and skipped over by movie fans when they were picking through the video store's stock. Bruce's Deadly Fingers is one of those kind of movies. This is something that general movie goers would skip over but there is so much going on that you can't help and enjoy yourself. The acting in this one is a ham sandwich. The cast puts the acting to the back and their martial arts skills to the forefront. This creates some very funny and action packed scenes. The story for this one is nothing new in regards to the Hong Kong martial arts scenes of the early 70s. Even by 76 this is a story that had already been the focus of several dozen martial arts films. That doesn't make it bad it just makes it clichéd and cheesy...which is what I love. Finally, if you want blood you will be disappointed. However, if you want some relentless kung fu action that continues with no end in sight then you will enjoy it. Overall, Bruce's Deadly Fingers is a fun kung fu flick for those that love 70s martial art flicks. The action is a plenty and the story is something you have seen before but it is still fun. Be sure to check it out on blu from VCI Entertainment.
