I get so many horror movies in from different sub-genres. Personally, I prefer horror comedies but I still have favorites in almost all sub-genres. I'm always open to checking out indie horror movies but I tend to stay away from extreme horror and torture porn. I have nothing against these movies but they just don't entertain me like other horror films do. Mostly because they are trying to shock the viewer instead of telling a story. Sometime back I received the 2019 indie horror film Abduction 101 from my friends over at Wild Eye. This release is part of their Wild and Extreme line. I've enjoyed most of these releases but I was concerned that this one would not deliver on the fun. Thanks Wild Eye for sending this one my way.
The film follows three young ladies that are staying in a cabin in the woods. They decide to expand their horizons and make their own little horror movie incorporating an old house they found nearby. Things don't go as innocently as they had hoped when they cross paths with some men wearing masks who need their bodies.
Honestly, I wasn't expecting a lot from this one but it was actually kind of fun at times. With that being said, there was plenty of room for improvements and the film couldn't make it's mind up as to what kind of film it wanted to be. The acting in this one is very amateurish. I review movies daily that were filmed with no budgets and no experience but this one is pretty rough. The cast tries but their inexperience and lack of a script really makes some of the scenes a little tough to sit through. The story for this one was not what I thought it was when I tossed it in. I thought the film was going to be a straight forward torture porn but it through a few curve balls at me. Honestly, I liked the story and the potential it had but the extended torture scenes are painfully dull and boring. Honestly, if those scenes were whittled down some the movie would be so much more fun. Finally, the film does have some blood and small creature effects. They work and add some fun to the film. Overall, Abduction 101 is far from perfect. In fact, it can be a rough watch at times but there is some redeeming scenes that makes it worth a watch at least once.
