I love getting in new indie horror films to check out.  Even if I don't care for the film I always have fun checking out someone's hard work.  A few weeks ago my friends over at Dead Vision Productions released the newest film from Patrick Fortin titled Park Street Diary.  I reviewed two films from Fortin sometime ago so I was looking forward to checking this one out.  When the movie was up for preorder I quickly rushed over and snagged a copy for my collection.  I wasn't going to review it but I was too curious about it so when I had the chance to see it I went ahead and tossed it in.
The film follows a deranged man with a video camera as he films different demented acts ranging from showing off the bones in his back yard to torturing people and even sex.
Park Street Diary is a film that appeals to the extreme horror crowd but fans of the goofy side of the genre, like myself, will find this one a little underwhelming.  Dead Vision has released two films that I thoroughly enjoyed.  Kindness of Strangers and Freak are two solid indie horror films that I would highly recommend to genre fans.  However, Park Street Diary just didn't do it for me.  It wasn't a bad film but it wasn't the kind of movie I typically enjoy.  The acting in this one is a little different than your normal horror flick.  We get a guy with a camera filming bones, a guy tied to a chair, and even some topless fun with a woman.  However, there is no real interactions aside from torture and removing a woman's shirt.  The lead is really in character but that's about as far as you can go with it.  The story for this one is similar to several other films where we follow a demented soul as he tortures, kills, and dismembers those unlucky enough to cross paths with him.  I've reviewed at least a dozen films with a similar story and as a fan of the weirder side of cinema I found myself becoming uninterested as the film progressed.  I enjoy films that have characters with personalities and a story that will catch you off guard.  The predictability of this one takes the fun out of it.  Finally, if you are looking for gore then this one is for you.  The film doesn't boast a high body count but the few deaths we do get showcase some great gore.  Gorehounds will thoroughly enjoy this one.  Overall, Park Street Diary is one for the extreme horror fans but if you are like me and enjoy strange flicks then you will not enjoy this one. I may not like this one but I encourage every genre fan to check out Dead Vision Productions and support indie horror.
