I've been actively browsing the indie horror hashtags on Instagram and Twitter for months where I've uncovered some seriously weird and unforgettable films that would have typically went unnoticed. One of these films that quickly caught my eye was McMurderer. This weird S.O.V. horror comedy was sold as a DVD/VHS bundle labeled the Unhappy Meal. I was seriously interested in this and reached out to the Instagram page for the film that was sent over by a friend of mine. I was able to snag one of the Unhappy Meals and when I was able to finally check it out I quickly tossed it in and hit play. Holy fuck, what a wild ride.
The film follows the son of a man who worked as a clown at a fast food chain. However, he is murdered and his son will go to great lengths to bring him back.
McMurderer reminded me a lot of the S.O.V. horror comedies that Dungeon Entertainment has been releasing on their YouTube channel and on DVD. They feel like parodies of S.O.V. horror films but the stories are so fucking insane that you have to see them to truly believe them. McMurderer was even wilder than anything Dungeon Entertainment has released and a movie I still can't wrap my head around it. The acting in this one is fun but no one is winning any awards. They deliver some goofy performances but they are enjoyable. I really enjoyed the wilder performances and unusual characters that was brought to our attention. The story for this one is a bit of a difficult one to follow but this is not the movie you toss in if you want a heart warming story or a movie that has a lasting impact on you as a person. Instead, it's a fucked up and weird movie for fucked up and weird movie fans. Honestly, I have no idea what was really going on but I did enjoy the ride but I don't see myself revisiting this one anytime soon. Finally, the film is not a masterpiece of blood and gore but if you have seen any no budget S.O.V. horror flick then you know exactly what to expect in regard to practical and visual effects. Overall, McMurderer is not going to be for everyone. In fact, most horror fans will instantly be turned off by this but if you dig fucking weird no budget flicks that leave a lasting impression on the viewer then you are in luck. Check it out.
