By this point most of you know that I have a soft spot for anything cryptozoological. I've loved cryptids for several years. Anything with bigfoot, lockness monster, chupacabra, and so on will have my undivided attention. I'm not much on paranormal and I don't hold stock in cryptozoology but I still love the lore surrounded around it. Sadly, that love does not transfer well to film. A lot of the bigfoot flicks that I have seen over the years have been pretty bad. The movies may have been decent but the creature is downright laughable. A few days back Brian Papandrea sent over the horror comedy The Big F which is obviously a comedy centered around bigfoot. Thanks Brian for hooking me up.
The film begins with a scientist who has ordered a working woman over to his home so his "friend" can get a little tail. Turns out his friend is a Sasquatch with pent up sexual frustration. He kills the scientist and girl before setting his sights on the neighborhood. That's when we meet Maverick (Papandrea). The beast makes his way into Maverick's home where he kills his wife. Maverick runs for it to his neighbors house who kicks him out because he does not believe in bigfoot. While they are outside fighting, bigfoot arrives and forces the two to run to yet another house where a young girl is house-sitting for a relative and has some friends over. Now they have to fight off bigfoot's sexual advancement or die at his oversized hands and small pecker.
When I heard Brian Papandrea was working on another film and Nathan Rumler was attached I knew I was going to enjoy the film. Everything I have seen from the pair has been indie gold and The Big F was no exception. The acting in this is hit or miss with me. There is a few fun characters and then there is a few that do drag the scenes down. Brian Papandrea made the film as Maverick. If he was not in front of the camera and strictly directing it then this film would have been shit. I don't mean to sound like an asshole but his character and performance made the film what it is. Nathan Rumler and Brian Kilby are great as well which really help the film move along. The remainder of the cast do their best but their inexperience does show which slows some of the scenes down. The story for this one is fun as hell. The film follows bigfoot who has a small wiener who is killing anyone he can get his hands on until he finds the perfect woman that makes his little prick stand up. The story is rather short in nature with a lot of scenes that are full of filler that could easily be cut out. What makes this story so damn entertaining is the characters. A couple are so colorfully written and wonderfully acted that it makes up for the short story. Finally, the film has some on screen kills that are bloody and fun. They do show their budget but they are still fun nonetheless. Overall, The Big F is a modern day creature feature that hits all the right notes. It is the perfect mix of laughs and blood which is the way I like it. I highly recommend this one!
