It is exciting to think about all the unknown indie films that I have yet to discover.  So many films go unnoticed by many and that is a shame because they really deserve to be seen. One of those films is Weedwolf by director Calvin Hall and Tommy Slama.  I was searching for werewolf wallpapers on google when accidentally typed in "weewolf."  That search resulted in a review for the flick Weedwolf.  I searched around and found the Facebook page for the film.  I reached out to the page and asked how I could get a copy of the film to review and Tommy was kind enough to send me one.  So thank you very much!
The film follows the sheriff of a small southern town and his "mantard" son Bumper (Slama). The two are investigating a series of brutal murders that have befallen a few local residents who have tried to get stoned.  After a lot of hard work (at least they think they are working hard) they chalk it up to wild dogs when it was in fact a rapping werewolf that goes into a murderous frenzy whenever someone tokes up.  It is up to the babbling sheriff, Bumper, and a real rapper named Junebug to stop the werewolf.
You can just look at the cover art of a movie and know you will be in for a damn good time and this one did not let me down. This movie was a damn good time and nothing I expected which is something every movie should strive to do.  I'm sick of watching the same movie over and over with different cast members and in a different decade in history.  The team behind this one knew that and really gave the viewer something very, very different.  The film was a fucking acid trip on film that made me laugh way too hard in spots.  The acting was not something I would call great or mediocre.  It was definitely among some of the worst but that only added to the fun this film created.  With a film titled Weedwolf the viewer can already expect they will not see acting that will be compared to Forrest Gump.  The story is so off-the-wall and ridiculous that it makes the movie extremely hard to follow.  However, that is perfectly fine because this movie still has a way of pulling you back in with raunchy politically incorrect humor.  A more uniform storyline would have helped this movie but it did not take away from it either.  My only real complaint about the story was that it did not feature more of the weedwolf and it was just way too long.  I would have cut a few of the random video inserts out to shorten the film and added a little more with the wolf.  Finally, the film does have some on screen kills but the special effects are no where to be seen.  The weedwolf looks really bad and the kills are lacking the special effects, blood, and gore that hardcore horror fans want to see in a werewolf flick.  A little more editing to the story and better effects would have knocked this movie out of the park.  Overall, this is one insane drug fueled ride that will leave you in stitches.  I recommend this one.
