Well I had quite the little treat last night sitting down to watch this film. Expecting a SyFy style piece of garbage to fall asleep to I found myself really enjoying it!
The Movie: The movie centers around two girls in their twenties Lucy (played by the gorgeous Natalie Burn) and Kelly (Kristina Klebe) on their vacation to Montenegro to meet up with an old boyfriend of Lucy from college. After meeting up with Alex (Slobodan Stefanovic)the old boyfriend and his current fiancee' Yasmin (Sofija Rajovic) the four of them head off for some drinks and dancing. Of course the drinks leads to uncomfortable questions from Yasmin about the nature of Alex and Lucy's past and more drama ensues after and Lucy and Alex do end up together after Yasmin passes out. Nothing boring or stupid in my book. After doing some boating around some islands they come across a good friend of Yasmin's named Boban (Dragan Micanovic) spear fishing. Kind of a stretch of a coincidence there but I can suspend my disbelief on that one. After spending some time with their new friend the five of them head out to a mysterious island to do some sight seeing. What they do not expect is to see a strange man who appears to be feeding something down a well. And he's feeding whatever it is human remains. Well without getting too much more in depth on the rest of the film since I'm not that kind of reviewer let's just say a horrific chase begins from here from both the unusual gentleman and whatever he was feeding in the well...gee I wonder what it is? I will say once you understand the story behind all this I hope like me you are intrigued enough for a second viewing and I surely will be.
The Gore: Yes there's gore in this (better than I thought it would be) little gem. Including a very realistic decapitation which was not cgi enhanced or so I'm assuming for those of you who hate cgi gore. I go back and forth with that opinion kind of. Some films I give a pass to like SyFy movies and most especially certain independents but for the most part cgi blood and gore is unnecessary and almost never looks as good or as real as running liquids etc. Couple of good stabbings with a blunt instrument but the real star of the gore in this was again the decapitation. I love a good beheading...LOVE!
The Acting: Totally there and then some. Crying, being drunk, being scared...not one of the actors I would say was bad at all. The worst would have to be Slobodan Stefanovic who plays Alex but that's really no knock he did just fine. And I have to admit I have a new starcrush on Natalie Burn and am definitely going to investigate her other films including watching Expendables 3 which will be hell for me since I really don't care for action films of it's kind but I like doing things I hate once in awhile.
The Script: Very believable dialogue. I really cared for the characters especially Boban and Kelly. It really makes a movie better for me when I care for the characters. Fodder for death scenes are good for just that but when you care at least for me you get into the film more. The story was excellent in my opinion not boring, a friend said it took awhile to get going but for me I prefer a good story lead up and character time. I want it.
The FX: Already commenting on the gore I'll just say that I liked the creature effects in this movie. Definitely cgi but in my opinion good cgi, not the best by any means but it was believable and didn't look like a video game. I was going to post a pic of the creature but that's just too much of a spoiler for my review.
The Rating: Yep going with three and a half bloody hand prints. The movie is rewatchable, good acting, effects, and story/script. In the end I can only really say that it's sort of been done before but there aren't too many stories that haven't anymore it's just a matter of what kind of twist you add to it. Good but not great!
