Rating (out of 5):
The snuff found footage sub-genre of horror has to be the weakest point in the genre.  Back in 2001, Fred Vogel and Toe Tag made August Underground.  This film has been credited as starting the underground horror movement and starting the trend for snuff found footage flicks.  Though I have never seen the August Underground trilogy, I have to say that most of the other films similar to it suck pretty fucking bad.  They all lack stories and just offer up horrible camera angles and quick kills.  I usually skip these kind of films because they usually just try to shock the viewer and not entertain them.  However, when I am asked to watch a movie I always feel obligated to.  Not long ago I received an email to check out a new anthology simply titled Faces of Snuff.  Faces of Death, get it?  I agreed and soon wasted over 2 hours of my life.
The film features dozens of shorts lasting 5 minutes or less and features someone dying on camera in a faux snuff manner.  Some are people seeking retribution from those that wronged them while others are people just killing for the sake of killing.  We even have one following a family planning suicide as Y2K nears.

I have seen dozens of these faux snuff found footage films and reviewed almost everyone I have seen.  All of them, with the exception of the short Holly, ended up becoming negative reviews.  They all lacked story and could barely hold my attention.  Knowing this beforehand, I knew Faces of Snuff would be hard to watch especially after I found out it was over 2 hours long.  The acting in this one varies from decent to horrible.  Some of the segments has some decent acting that just lacked experience and direction while others were no more than a group of people standing in their backyards reading off a piece of paper.  Not very consistent.  The stories for these are pretty much lacking.  They all follow someone killing someone else on camera either on purpose or accidentally.  Some did spice it up a bit but almost all of them failed to give us any bit of a story.  With that being said, there was one segment that follows two girls that torture and kill a guy on an online show that was leagues above the entire film.  Finally, this one has tons of on screen kills.  Sadly, they are nothing that impressive and use minimum practical effects.  Overall, Faces of Snuff is a huge bust.  The film is way too long, void of any direction, and very repetitive.  This one needs to be avoided.
