Have you ever done something so bad that you feel sick to your stomach? I'm sure you have and I can relate. What I did was so bad and unimaginable that I honestly don't want to talk about it, however, for the sake of the review I will. I watched the 1999 S.O.V. shitfest Werewolf of Ohio. Now that I got that off my chest I can continue with my life and not feel guilty. I love low to no budget films and will buy as many as I can find. I also love films from my home state and the surrounding states. After hearing about this film from the buckeye state I had to have it. The film is sold exclusively by Warlock Home Video for a very low price so I picked it up. I knew it would be bad but I had no idea what I was getting myself in to.
The film opens with a young man as he awakens in a small creek. He was attacked by a werewolf and lost his family to the bloodthirsty beast. He teams up with an expert werewolf hunter and a documentary filmmaker to track the beast down. However, the three fail and people fall victim to the beast. We then jump forward a few years and the young man is still seeking his revenge but is unable to find and kill the beast. We yet again jump forward a few more years and the young man has let the beast consume his life. He has sold all of his possessions to fight the beast. He now owns a silver coated pistol and silver bullets to kill the beast. After a final god awful fight between the two the young man is able to kill the beast once and for all.
After I watched this film I did not want to review it, however, something deep down wanted me to and get the word out so people do not waste their time and money on this one. I respect all filmmakers regardless if I like their films or not. They take their time and money and put it all in to their work in hopes of people actually liking the finished product. I respect that so don't take it the wrong way, however, this film is horrible. Now that I got that out of the way let me tell you how shitty this film is. The overall appearance of this film is the worst I have ever seen. The movie is the same quality as home made shorts that you can find on youtube. This film takes the prize for having the worst acting and special effects. The werewolf is trotting around in ripped clothes while wearing what looks like a Lon Chaney Jr. Wolfman mask. The deaths are absolutely ridiculous. The dead have fake blood and something resembling chopped steak as the wounds. I understand that some independent films have no budget but there was no talent nor time placed behind the kills at all. My biggest complaint is the editing. The film plays for a minute or so before a cut scenes rolls in and the film goes black. Literally, after every minute or two. After 30 minutes this becomes a nuisance. Finally, the story could have worked for a low budget flick, however, this film never had a chance. Overall, this is a movie that should be avoided in my opinion. Beware!
