Rating (out of 5):
This documentary follows the recovery of sideshow performer Jelly the Clown. Jelly lived with his roommate, who was a former contestant on Jeopardy, when their apartment caught fire. His roommate was able to escape but Jelly was trapped inside until the fire department was able to pull him from the inferno. Jelly was then in a medically induced coma until the doctors could patch him up. This lead to bills piling up and medication causing problems throughout his body. When things looked bleak for Jelly his performance family came to his aid with a series of fundraisers and moral support. These performers banded together and visited him regularly until he was well.
Documentaries are a beautiful thing. They are well thought films about topics that most people know nothing about. I have watched documentaries about toilet paper, two roommates who always argued and had their arguments recorded, a foul mouthed RV salesman, and so forth. That is one of the reasons I love Chemical Burn Entertainment. They always surprise me with different documentaries ranging from a variety of topics. However, this documentary was a pleasant surprise. The topic for this documentary is one that I had no real interest in before but the documentary was able to show real heart, compassion, and a sense of remorse of the sick clown in a way that the viewer is pulled in and their heart swells. The information and topic was placed together very well but the pacing is very slow and monotonous. Though the story was sad and heart-breaking it was a little repetitive. Finally, the look of the documentary is rough and very raw. The point of the film was to not give you a visually appealing film but to show you how loving and caring a community that is often mocked and ridiculed really is. Overall, A Clown's Recovery is a tale of how much people not related can love each other and come together when times are tough. Check this one out and have your faith in mankind redeemed.
