Werewolves are something we rarely see in the indie world and when we do it can go one of two ways.  They can either be brilliant and make you wonder why other filmmakers don't make more werewolf flicks or they can fail miserably resulting in shitty looking werewolves and the urge to shun all werewolf flicks. I have seen several werewolf flicks done on a micro-budget and loved them.  The first that comes to mind is the funny Werewolf Fever.  I absolutely love that film regardless of how flawed it is.  That made me wonder why there wasn't more werewolf flicks out there and that was when Cult Movie Mania and Daily Grindhouse.com released news that they would be releasing the flick Light of Blood by actor and director Gustavo Perez.  They were kind enough to send me a link to an online screener along with the trailer.  The trailer looked cheap and fun so I graciously accepted.  Thanks guys!
The film follows a man working on a Cuban military base who is a little too flirty with his military leader's wife.  The leader turns jealous and forces a group of scientists test a super soldier serum on him as his punishment. The serum works and it transforms him into a murderous monster by moonlight.  He wreaks havoc around the local community forcing the authorities to step in to stop the wild man from killing more innocent victims.

When I watch a movie, regardless of the subject matter, I look for a solid story and special effects.  If these two are decent then the film is usually enjoyable regardless of how the acting is. With that being said, I have never had to wonder about the execution of a film before.  Well, unless you are watching an Ed Wood flick.  In fact, Ed Wood was what was going through my mind when I first turned this film on.  It was extremely crude and rough which is something I usually don't mind but it rendered this flick completely.  The acting in this film is atrocious.  The entire cast showed no experience and lacked any real conviction.  With that being said, it was evident that this was on purpose but it really made the film almost unwatchable.  The film would have been a solid movie if they would have just gave it their all.  The story for this one is one that has been used time after time again and is one that the Sy-Fy channel ran into the ground during the 90s.  A genetic experiment gone wrong is one seen in film after film.  This time it was more horror than sci-fi but it just fell short of being anything enjoyable.  Finally, the film does have numerous deaths on screen but none are memorable nor were they enjoyable.  However, I really did like the werewolf's transformation.  A good throwback to when Lon Chaney Jr. changed.  Overall, Light of Blood is a very crude film that is rough around the edges.  Fans of Ed Wood will really see some charm in this one but I, for one, did not.  I can't recommend this one.
