Dorchester's Revenge: The Return of Crinoline Head

Dorchester's Revenge: The Return of Crinoline Head

Directed by Tommy Faircloth
Starring: Debbie Rochon, Jason Vail, Christian James, Elizabath Mears
Format: Online Screener / VHS / Big Screen at the Premier

A group of college students researching Dorchester Stewart, better known as the infamous killer Crinoline Head, return to the scene of the horrific murders that happened in 1996.

 "Wtf is a Crinoline Head?"

There's an informative recap at the start if you're not familiar.  This segways into the premise for this film quite effectively.  We meet the cast of characters in class getting their learn on.

"Sometimes it's better to forget the past and just move on."

David and James want to do their college midterm assignment on ol' Crinny.  They score some info and head out to the stomping grounds.  Cuties Nancy and Shelby end up joining them.  They jam out to some tunes on the way. They run into groundskeeper Betsy (Debbie Rochon) who's keeping an eye on the place.  She's a foul-mouthed, gas-huffing redneck and it's hilarious. Turns out they have a couple tag-alongs.  No fucking girl scout cookies either, more classmates who's intentions may not be the greatest.

So a bunch of college kids are out in a secluded area.  Some are trying to get work done and others wanna party.  There just happens to be a hulking serial murderer stalking the place. Sound familiar?  Of course it does, but the acting is good and the characters are fun. Crinoline Head, while a mask-wearing psycho killer, is not your average mask-wearing psycho killer.

Elizabeth Mears is a scene-stealer as the turbo-cunt Janet.  She plays the perfect bitch and is my favorite part of this film.  There are usually bitches in the character lots of these slasher type movies, like Friday the 13th pt 7 (with the bitch being so cruel to the psychic chick).  I don't believe I've seen one pulled off quite like this.  There's this one part where she...  haha nope.  You're gonna hafta watch it.  Definitely an "in your face"  performance,  to say the least. And when she dies, it's great, cuz she... watch the damn movie already.

To stand out from the crowd in a saturated genre, a film of this nature really needs amusing dialog, inventive kills, and great camerawork. We're given all that and more with Dorchester's Revenge. Debbie Rochon's boobs, fabulous drag queens, challenging shots, goregeous scenery . There's a nostalgia factor, paying tribute to all that was great about the beloved slashers from back in the day. Simultaneously, we're given generous doses of modern humor.  Its just a damn fun film to watch. I wouldn't label it a horror-comedy, but its horror, and there's comedy.  The comedy isn't forced, and its effective.  #LOST.

Tommy was kind enough to share the online screener with me, but I have the kick-ass limited VHS Survival Kit, and also attended the premier of this film in Charleston, SC.

I recommend you check this one out, there's a ton of stuff to love about it.  Even if you haven't watched the original Crinoline Head film (and you should), you can dive right in with this installment and have a great time.

5/5
