Gutterballs 2: BALLS DEEP (bootleg edition)

Gutterballs 2: Balls Deep (bootleg edition)
release: 2015  format: online screener
written and directed by Ryan Nicholson
starring: Ryan Nicholson, Aidan Dee, Stephanie McFarland

The first Gutterballs film is a now infamous underground outing from Canada's sickest, Ryan Nicholson.  It was released in 2008, and went on to be re-released in many editions from many companies in many countries.  It was campy, sleazy, and filled with creative, over-the-top kills.

Packed full of gore, sex, and profanity, Gutterballs was an instant classic.  BBK, the Bowling Bag Killer, terrorized a late night bowling league match among a colorful array of 80's style characters as vengeance for the graphic rape and assault of Lisa, who's father ran the bowling alley and was actually BBK.  In the end, there was only one survivor, and it wasn't BBK or Lisa.

Its 2015 and Ryan Nicholson strikes again.  Gutterballs 2: BALLS DEEP hits like a bowling ball to the face.  Those expecting more of the same will be in a pleasant surprise.  GB2 takes BBK to a whole other level, breaking down barriers, and striking hard to make sure all will fall.  The story picks back up in another bowling alley, where a relative of characters from the first works.  Some bimbos bring a magic 8 ball, which conjures forth the spirit of BBK.  That's what kicks things off for us, but I gotta tell you, it goes places from there that I certainly wasn't expecting.

The first Gutterballs was campy and fun.  GB2 gets very mean-spirited and downright hateful.  There comes a point where the humor and fun go out the window, and anything goes.  I gotta be careful not drop spoilers since the film isn't yet released, but I can tell you this is a Plotdigger film through and through.  The humor is crude and vulgar, there's lots of nudity and sex, and the kills are brutal as fuck.  GB2 goes to a darker place than what we've seen before - this is not just more of the same, refashioned to cash in on previous success and notoriety.  Ryan clearly had a plan and executes it much the same as BBK executes his victims.

I know a lot of people have been talking about this being a sequel and how is he gonna top the death by 69 scene.  That issue is dealt with severely in GB2 and I can tell you that its fucking handled.  I won't tell you when or how, but its there and if you're watching and waiting for it, you will be rewarded.

GB2 does go deep, BALLS DEEP.  It's dark and cruel, and makes no apologies.  If you think its gonna be all fun and games like part one, you're in for some uncomfortable viewing.  Plotdigger fans are gonna eat this shit up, but some first time viewers might get their feelings hurt.  GB2 is brutal and uncompromising, Ryan does what the fuck he wants and no fucks are given.  The cut I saw was the Texas Frightmare bootleg screener edition, straight from Ryan himself (of course).  To know that there will be well over 10 more minutes of additional footage in the final release is very pleasing.  I recommend that you grab this one if you got the "balls" to watch it.

I'll review again when I can talk about everything in detail, but for now, just remember... THE PIN IS FAMILY.

5/5

  1. Hell yes! Great review! GB2 brings the pain like few other films before it, and it's destined to become an underground legend just like the first film. Ryan himself is an icon, and this movie proves why. The Pin is Family!
