The Movie:  Slasher film.  Killer dawns a white face mask while picking off members of the Midsummer Nightmares Halloween party.  But who is it?  Yes, yes typical slasher style here.  But this is a slasher fanatic writing especially those of the 80's.  There was a lot I liked with this one, not really a whole lot I disliked at all.  Yeah sure slashers are a dime a dozen just like zombie movies, etc and blah...as long as they are good go ahead and make a thousand more I say.  Remake them, rewrite them, recast them, throw them in a blender with Michael Bay I really do not care just make sure they are full of blood and enjoyable to watch.  Midsummer Nightmares is the kind of indie slasher I want to see.

The Acting:  Well I really cannot say anyone was terrible.  Garrett Freeders was the weakest of the male roles in this one but really it wasn't awful by any means I just didn't forget he was an actor as I did with the others.  As for our ladies well I think everyone of them did a good job portraying their characters.  Most especially Kelci Magel and Stacey Freeders these two were definitely the shining stars of the film.  Kelci's bitch faced character was definitely my favorite.  Back to the men Chad Collard was truly good at playing your typical arrogant pretty boy.  One of my favorite parts of the movie was when he and Amanda Collins who played a party girl named Michele got murdered after doing the good deed in the basement.  Good-bye dick...literally.  Can't really forget Scott Gillespie either who played the innocent new neighbor Rob whom I think really gave the viewer some one to cheer for and hope he doesn't end up being the masked madman.

The Gore:  Yes we have a good amount of the red stuff in this.  Slashers really don't always exactly cry out for loads of gore but as a gorehound I'm never disappointed with throwing a bit in for good measure. One gazebo death in particular was nice and bloody.

The Script:  Great dialogue.  Some aren't in the mood sometimes for good conversation when watching a kill movie like this.  Let's just kill them off and forget about them.  Not me.  It's good to care about your characters or relate to them.  I have to say even Kelci's darkness and negativity was relatable for me.

The Rating:  Yes 3 and a half bloody hand prints.  Very enjoyable.  I've probably watched this four or five times.  Definitely recommended for any lover of slasher films.  Especially 80's style because I felt this paid a great homage if you will to the 80's slashers.  But that's just me.
