Silent Night Deadly Night is my favorite Christmas horror film.  Yeah sure Black Christmas is scarier and has the gorgeous Olivia Hussey but something just sets Silent Night Deadly Night apart.  The franchise itself is a bit odd.  The second film basically just re-edits the first movie adding in a few scenes and an ending to try and make a credible film as a whole, which it is not but still a great time for "so bad it's good".  The third film is just as bad without rehashing the whole first film, and still "so bad it's good".  On to the fourth installment now.  Initiation is by far the most bizarre film in the entire franchise and one of the most bizarre Christmas horror films period.

The film follows an odd group of people starting with a bum played by a personal favorite of mine Clint Howard.  The bum witnesses a spontaneous combustion of a woman who then falls off a building.  Her body is very mysterious and when the bum touches the corpse it appears to have been all melted away at the pelvis somehow.  At first I thought it was just a bad effect but no as things move along you soon figure it out.  The following day a journalist by the name of Kim (Neith Hunter) takes over the story from her sexist boss (Reggie Banister) and soon discovers she has bit off more than she can chew.  I won't go into too much because the movie has to be seen to be believed but I will say a strange erotic cult is involved and a few nasty little maggot like creatures.  This movie just takes weird to the next level and I personally loved it.  Bad acting sure, but overall a solid underrated gem for the time period.
