Horror fans usually bitch and moan at me because I treat extreme and underground horror films like all other horror films.  Many often worship these films because they go overboard with the gore.  I refuse to.  I love story and character development with my horror.  That's why I often find myself enjoying horror comedies more than the extreme stuff.  Sometime back my friends over at Umbrella Entertainment sent me over a few movies to check out.  The first I popped in was the 2019 supernatural comedy Extra Ordinary starring Will Forte.  I knew this was one I would love but how much would I love it?  Thanks Umbrella!
The film follows driving instructor Rose (Higgins) who has been hiding the fact that she can communicate with the deceased.  She is contacted by a widower who is living in fear that his deceased wife is trying to control his life from the other side.  She refuses to help him at first but changes her mind when his daughter becomes possessed by something.  They soon uncover that a former one hit wonder has made a pact with the devil and needs a virgin to sacrifice in order to get his music career back.  Now they must stop him in order to stop the young woman.
I had preemptively watched the trailer for the film prior to watching the film and knew I would love it.  It had some serious laughs, amazing characters, and a story that really works.   It does lack the horror but it is still a fun movie to toss in.  The acting in this one is very solid.  The entire cast does a fantastic job and the characters are so much fun.  Will Forte is known for his comedic performances and does a hell of a job here once again.  A Futile and Stupid Gesture is one of my favorite movies and his performance there is legendary.  His performance here rivals that in terms of comedy and comedic timing.  Forte may deliver a solid performance but it's Maeve Higgins that carries the film.  Her character is so much fun to watch and her emotions feel so genuine.  I absolutely love her character and I really wish we get more films centered around her.  The story for this one is fun.  It's a quirky comedy with supernatural elements scattered throughout so those of you looking for a full fledged horror film will be very disappointed.  However, that doesn't mean this is a bad film.  I loved the pacing, the Satanic angle, the comedy wrapped around the supernatural, and the characters.  My hat is off to the writing team.  Finally, the film has several scenes with some blood.  Not the goriest of films but we do get some blood.   The effects are mostly visual effects but they rely on humor more than effects.  Overall, Extra Ordinary is such a fun film.  I absolutely loved the characters and the story is highly entertaining.  The film is now available on DVD from Umbrella Entertainment.
