I'm too quick to judge a movie by it's artwork.  A lot of times, especially with indie horror, I get in movies with kick ass artwork but the film is nowhere near as awesome as the DVD cover.  Several months back the fine folks over at Wild Eye sent me the 2017 horror film Terror in Woods Creek which was originally titled Deadlines.  Wild Eye has released some awesome movies over the years and some of the artwork has really impressed me.  However, I think this release has my favorite artwork to date.  I love how simple it is and the slasher inspired imagery really works.  I would blind buy this if I saw it sitting on a store shelf.  I want to thank Wild Eye for sending this one my way to check out.
Almost 50 years ago a mysterious man wondered into the small town of Woods Creek and several people lost their lives.  Now, the same man has returned and death has followed.

I went into this one expecting a straight forward slasher.  Instead, I was given a rather bold no budget horror film that blends slashers with Sometimes They Come Back.  It is a very ambitious story but I liked where it took us.  The acting in this one is uneven but I really enjoyed it for the most part.  Some of the cast shows their inexperience and their characters all lack personalities.  These performances do fall flat.  However, there is others, like Matthew Ewald and Royce Hobson, that delivers top notch performances.  I really enjoyed the intensity they brought to the film and their characters make the story enjoyable.  The story for this one is a little of this and a little of that.  The movie has that slasher vibe with Potato Sack Jack killing people.  With that being said, the Sometimes They Come Back inspired portion of the story featuring the Drifter did make the story feel a little confusing at times.  If it would have stuck with one angle over the other I could see myself liking it a lot more.  They get points for having the guts to tackle a story like this but when it is all said and done I could enjoy myself a lot more if the story was a little more straight forward.  Finally, the film has some pretty solid make-up effects.  I really liked a few of the gags in this one but the deaths are pretty lackluster when compared to other films using similar stories.  Overall, Terror in Woods Creek is for the slasher fan looking for something a little different.  The movie does have some rough edges but if you stick with it you will enjoy it.  Check it out.
