Very few horror films are able to leave a mark on history but when they do they make sure that no one forgets what they did.  One film series that has become well known in the horror community for causing a stir is the Guinea Pig series.  The first film in the series was released in 1985 and over the years has earned a bit of a reputation for turning heads and inducing vomit.  The most popular of these tales was in 1991 when actor Charlie Sheen was sent a copy of Flower of Flesh and Blood and believed it was a real snuff film.  Since then the series has lived in infamy.  Recently, Stephen Biro of Unearthed Films got together with several filmmakers to put together an American Guinea Pig series with Biro directing the first film Bouquet of Guts & Gore.  The film exploded all over the horror community and people have been falling head over heals for the film.  The film starred YouTube personality Eight The Chosen One, special effects from legends Marcus Koch, Shelby McIntyre, and Chris Polidoro.  The film also features legendary filmmaker Jim Van Bebber as cinematographer.  I had to order the three disc of this modern classic and the second it was available I ordered it.  The second I had the time to check it out I tossed it in.
The film follows three men, the director, the actor, and VHS, who follow two young women for some time before abducting them.  They take the two to a disclosed location and fill them full of LSD to keep them docile.  The director and VHS are both running camera's while the actor uses a series of tool to slowly remove their clothes leaving them both in their underwear.  The actor is then instructed to start at the left and slowly dismember them one by one because their clients want them that way.  While they are cutting up the girls, VHS becomes sick and tries to leave where the director tells him that if he does not finish his job they will kill his family.
When I hear a lot of people talk about how amazing a film is I often get curious about the release and want to check it out just like anyone else.  American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore is a film that has earned it's place in horror history for what it is.  That on its owned made me want to check it out  but I was concerned that this was another horror flick that people go crazy over but I would not find it entertaining.  The film was intended to be as close to a real life snuff film as possible and it is safe to say they achieved that.  The use of three different camera's worked very well to offer up that distressed image look that makes the film feel very underground and decrepit.  The acting in this one is pretty basic but it still does the job.  The only three that really act are the director (Scott Gabbey), the actor (Eight The Chosen One), and VHS (David Hood).  The three interact very well together but it is really hard to judge their acting due to the masks and the film was shot.  The story for this one is my only complaint about the film.  The story was very simple following a man who butchers two women like beef while two men film it.  This was fucking amazing the first thirty minutes and my jaw was dropped the whole time but once we hit the half hour mark the film started to run it's course which really tried my patience.  The film would have been really effective if the running time was cut down drastically but because it does pass the hour mark it does get a bit boring watching the actor saw on those two ladies. Finally, the film has two on screen kills but fuck do they make them count.  The kills are gruesome, detailed, and fantastic.  Hell, they drag on for almost an hour so they better be good.  The effects crew really did out do themselves.  Overall, American Guinea Pig: Bouquet of Guts and Gore is a film that really brings the fucking gore.  The film is truly heinous and really captures that snuff vibe like no film before.  Sadly, the film is way too long for what it is resulting in a rather boring second half.  The film is truly a historic release so check it out.
