Rating (out of 5):
I was on a little kick where I was lucky enough to watch a few decent horror films.  Typically, I get stuck in shitty movie ruts so this was a welcomed change.  I just checked out the Troma film Luther the Geek that was just released on blu by Vinegar Syndrome.  I really liked the film so I decided to follow it up with another Vinegar Syndrome release that I have always wanted to see, Frozen Scream.  I had wanted to see this one for some time after I heard a few horror fans talking about just how bad it was.  When I hear that a movie sucks I want to see it.  I want to know why it sucks and I tend to like movies for different reasons.  I usually find myself disagreeing with the average horror fan.  I was excited to see how bad it was for myself.  Wish I would have avoided it.
The film follows a young woman who is trying to fund her husband who was abducted by a cult due to the scientific work he is working on.  He has been working on immortality and the cult want's to use his work to create frozen zombies.  Now the woman has to team up with her ex, who is now a detective, in order to find him and the cult before they can use his scientific experiments to make an army of frozen zombies.

I was under the impression that Frozen Scream was another lost late 70s or early 80s slasher that many people did not care for.  Sadly, I was wrong.  The acting in this one is not that great.  The cast takes their roles a little too seriously and deliver dialogue in a way one would associate with a stage play or Broadway.  It was awkward at times and made me think that there was supposed to be some humor written in that was poorly executed.  The cast really needed some direction for the director and every scene makes that clear.  The story for this one could have been amazing if it would have went one of two ways.  First first way would have been to fully submerge itself in the cult angle and give us a dark, thriller following a cult looking for the scientist to do something cult like or really dedicated itself to an evil scientist raising an army of frozen zombies.  However, combining the two made the film feel pieced together and far from being complete.  This is one of the many films that looked good on paper and not on celluloid.  Finally, the film does have some on screen kills and a little blood.  The kills are nothing that lavish or disgusting but they still offer up some blood which is the only positive note I could find for this film.  The effects are minimal which is why this one is not blood soaked.  Overall, Frozen Scream is not a good film.  In fact, it is downright horrible.  Weird acting, a story that can't make it's mind up, and some blood is far from an entertaining film.  Skip this one and just hit up pornhub.
