I have seen hundreds of indie horror films since I joined Horror Society but very few were able to stick out.  Back in late 2013 or early 2014 I watched the experimental horror film Dog Dick from filmmaker James Bell.  This movie, though it was not a horror flick, really left me feeling uncomfortable and at times was really unnerving.  The film had no story but consisted of home footage that Bell had recorded of his family and other videos he found at pawn shops and thrift stores to show the world how messed up in the head people can really be.  Bell then followed up Dog Dick with two shorts, Manuer and Tantrum.  Both were once again experimental horror films that had a story of some sort and delivered on some decent gore and several what the fuck moments.  After watching these other two flicks I couldn't wait to get more.  He soon announced Nutsack Part 1: Lucifer's Cosmonauts.  I could not wait to see this film and the second he announced it was ready for pre-order I went ahead and ordered... after whipping my cock out.  Could this film be as good as the others?
The film follows a young man (Bell) who is out looking for work.  The young man goes and visits a friend who is at work and is told to speak with his manager where he will put in a good wood for him.  After he leaves he finds a strange book and his friend is immediately attacked by a fleshy blob like creature with tentacles that can kill.  He soon comes across some more friends who are looking to get fucked up and asks the young man if he wants to go back to their place while they shoot up.  He agrees and goes there for a few minutes.  Afraid of falling off the wagon that is his sobriety, he leaves them alone to do their thing.  They are soon visited by the same creature and are soon ripped to shreds.  The young man heads home where he soon finds his wife (Mae Bell) who tells him about an illness going around where people are hallucinating about seeing small creatures that are not really there.  She then sees one where her husband was once standing.
Bell's films are far from perfect and that is a harsh truth.  They are crudely edited, scored, and acted but they entertain and that is truly what matters.  His films are always fun and leaves the viewer wondering what the fuck they just sat through.  I love that aspect of his films.  The acting in this one is once again similar to what we got before from Bell.  The cast shows a lot of heart and dedication to their role but they just don't feel genuine in their performance.  This left a lot to be desired but we don't watch a Bell short to fall in love with the characters.  We watch a Bell short to watch fucked up shit happen to fucked up people.  The story for this one is a solid homage to the monster movies from the 80s and early 90s.  The story's set up is nothing special.  A man struggles to find work but finds a mysterious book instead only to have people close to him fall prey to a monster is rather weak for the most part but the films pulls the viewer in with the kills and creatures.  This was great and reminded me of a no budget mix of TerrorVision and a Full Moon feature.  Finally, the film is covered in blood and gore.  The film has some of the most entertaining kills that I have seen come out of a no budget flick.  The kills are vulgar as hell and covered in gore.  The effects for this one is great and a couple of the gags really made me do a double take where I rewound the film just to soak in how awesome they are.  Overall, Nutsack Part 1: Lucifer's Cosmonauts is another fantastic film from one of the most underrated directors in the underground.  If you want some gore then check out this short now!  It is well worth the price.
