Rating (out of 5):
Supernatural horror flicks are a difficult sub-genre to tackle.  It takes a lot to make these films effective and it is almost impossible to do this on a micro-budget. No budget supernatural films never have the atmosphere and sense of dread that supernatural films require to entertain.  I have seen so many low budget supernatural horror flicks and almost everyone of them failed on every level.  That brings me to my next review for Deadly PresenceDeadly Presence is the upcoming release from Brain Damage Films.  I knew nothing of the film but the poster was fucking amazing.  I did not have high hopes for the film but the team behind this one can put together one bad ass poster.
The film follows three girls who decide to have a little fun by holding a seance in a supposedly haunted home.  They have their shits and giggles before heading home.  The three then go several months without speaking to each other when one of them contacts another out of the blue.  When the two meet up one notices the other is acting strange.  The following morning she finds video footage of her friend that was subsequently acting strange the previous evening.  She then finds her body in the bathtub and starts to experience unexplainable things throughout the home.  Is the home haunted or did they unleash something that night months ago?
When it comes to supernatural horror flicks I tend to be more harsh on them because they are the hardest to get right.  Films like Nightmare Castle, House on Haunted Hill, Woman in Black, and Ghost Story are films that did it right.  They had atmosphere, suspense, and a rich, in depth story that engulfs the viewer.  However, this film has none of those redeeming qualities.  In fact, this is not only one of the worst supernatural horror flick but one of the worst horror films I have seen in general.  The acting in this one is actually very good.  The entire cast did a great job but their performances will go unnoticed.  The story in this one is, once again, is a story that has been told numerous times.  Originality aside, the film still offers no real sense of atmosphere, tension, or in depth story like so many other supernatural films.  Finally, those looking for great special effects and on screen kills will not find them here.  In fact, the film does not have any qualities that makes it a genuine horror film.  Overall, Deadly Presence is a failed attempt at the paranormal sub-genre.  The film has no redeeming qualities and I can not recommend it to anyone.
