January has been one tough month for me. As most of you know, I decided to dedicate January to watching all the non-horror flicks that were sent my way. A few of them were sent to me from the folks over at Impulse Pictures but most were sent to me from my friends over at Vinegar Syndrome. They have sent me several vintage porn and sexploitation flicks that I have been putting on my shelves until I could figure out what to do with them. Then I decided to focus this month, and possibly July, to checking them out. One film they sent my way is the 1983 Roger Watkins adult crime flick Corruption. Vin Syn was kind enough to send the great looking blu/dvd combo for me to check out. Thanks guys for hooking me up yet again!
The film follows a businessman who is fed up with the way his company is being ran and leaves with another man to visit a whorehouse on the edge of town. The man with him enters three rooms each in their own color with different women. The first woman allows him to watch her pleasure herself but he is not allowed to touch or fuck her. The second woman gives him oral pleasure and he is still not allowed to fuck. The third and final woman allows him to fuck but he can not cum inside of her. The first man leaves his new friend there and returns home where he boringly fucks his wife. Tired of the mundane, he seeks out the other man only to discover things at the whorehouse are much stranger than before.
Corruption was actually a sexploitation flick that I had heard about sometime ago and always wanted to review it. It was films like this that made me want to write reviews. These strange, over sexual films were rarely talked about then and were forgotten over time. The acting in this one is surprisingly great considering how it could easily have been a porn with a simple plot. The film's lead, Jaimie Gillis, is known for his adult film work but had appeared in several horror flicks over his career. He delivers a strong performance and his character is very intriguing. The remainder of the cast does a solid job supporting him and the story but he stands head and shoulders above the rest. The story for this one is very interesting as well and could be argued that it is symbolic in nature. The three rooms visualizing the three sexual pleasures and then returning to the mundane sex life of a married man was stark contrasts against each other. I actually enjoyed this angle and loved how it played out with the film's main character. With that being said, the sex scenes surprisingly drug this story out longer than it needed to be. It wouldn't have been so bad if the sex was at least entertaining but it wasn't. Finally, the film does not have any blood and gore for you die hard horror fans but it does have some amazing cinematography and set designs. The film looked amazing and I could see some subtle hints to SexWorld. Overall, Corruption is a surprisingly fun sexploitation flick and another amazing release from Vinegar Syndrome. If you like your flicks sleazy then check this one out!
