Burial Ground Blu-Ray

By Mrparka

As a staple in Italian horror cinema, "Burial Ground" stands in golden shambles with its peers. It's cheap, stupid, sleazy, cheesy, creepy, and despite its previous mentioned qualities, is an amazingly fun movie.
The story of "Burial Ground” is fairly simple, a professor unleashes an ancient evil on a villa in the form of decrepit, flesh eating zombies. Shortly afterward, a group of vacationers decide to show up for a weekend of love but, to the dismay of the group, the rotting corpses attack with relentless ferocity. As the bodies pile up, that of the weekenders and of the zombies, the film manages to keep the “creep cheese” vibes going all the way up until the sleazy, nipple biting bloodbath ending.
“Burial ground” has its share of mistakes, one with a good eye can even spot a crew member diving out of the way to save a shot. “Burial Ground” flaunts a clearly dirt cheap budget as well as too much POV camera work, although to some a negative they also double as part of its wonderful charm.   The previous mentioned attributes, along with the beautiful location, create a surreal quality that is amplified by the lack of plot and the synth score, which seems to bellow out over the chaos. Gore fans will be pleased as they are treated to innards spilling, throat ripping, bashed in heads, and, of course, a mothers incestuous good intentions going awry. If this isn't enough to sell you then I think the Italian zombie genre might not be your thing.
“Burial Ground” is part nightmare logic creep fest and part cheese sleaze crap fest. In other words, it's a winning combination. The Blu-ray looks great and is an upgrade from previous editions. Included on the disc are the ported over extras from the old Shriek Show DVD/Blu-Ray, English Subs, English and Italian audio tracks, and a few new interviews. The disc is a nice upgrade and worth the purchase for fans of the film and anyone else who are fans of adventurous zombie films.

For his only foray into the zombie genre, psychosexual sleaze maestro Andrea Bianchi (MALABIMBA: THE MALICIOUS WHORE) unleashes enough flesh-ripping, gut-chomping and depraved oedipal mayhem to set insane new standards in Italian horror: Mariangela Giordano (of SATAN'S BABY DOLL and MALABIMBA fame) stars in the splatter classic about a cursed country estate besieged by horny houseguests, undead Etruscans and the unusual relationship between a mother (Giordano) and her mega-creepy young son (disturbingly portrayed by diminutive adult actor Peter Bark) that will trigger perhaps the most jaw-dropping scenes in grindhouse history. Severin Films is improbably proud to present the definitive version of this gorehound/sex-fiend favorite, now packed with all-new Extras and featuring a 2k scan and restoration from an immaculate 35mm print recently discovered beneath the floorboards of a Trastevere church rectory.
