     I have a confession.  Some of you will blow up the comment section with hate speech and half-assed troll attempts while others will feel sorry for me but...I have never seen Jaws.  I know, I'm a shitty horror fan.  I love Spielberg and most of his movies but Jaws was just something that I never had an interest in seeing.  Most horror fans look at me in disgust but I just don't find sharks interesting.  Make a movie about dinosaurs or killer condoms and you have my attention but sharks are not my thing.   As fun as it looks, I haven't watched any of the Sharknado films yet.  With all that being said, if Wild Eye releases something you can bet your ass and half a tit I'm going to watch.  Awhile back WE released the shark possession flick Shark Exorcist.  I had no idea what the movie was about but I had to see it.  I reached out to them and they were kind enough to hook me up once again.  Thanks guys!

     The film follows a young woman and her friends who visit a lake (a lake, not the ocean) for a little sun and swimming.  However, one of them is attacked by something in the water, presumably a shark, and is able to escape with some minor wounds.  Her story went national and several news channels covered it until the news reached a Catholic priest who lost his brother in the same manner.  He sets out to visit the small town where the girl lives.  In the mean time, she wounds have healed in record speeds and she is now acting different.  She is more seductive and stalks men where they go missing.  Her roommate and the priest investigate the matter where they learn that a shark is possessed by the devil.

     I don't have a high expectation when it comes to a shark flick.  People screaming for their lives on the ocean while being swarmed by a shark just doesn't hold any appeal to me.  Shark Exorcist looked like it was the kind of film that offered up just enough humor and absurdity to make it work.  It was entertaining but didn't go the distance I was hoping for.  The acting in this one is surprisingly not that bad.  In fact, it was well done considering the story and budget.  I review all indie horror regardless of budget size.  I've seen movies made for nothing except the cost of Halloween props from the local pharmacy to budgets almost a million dollars.  You can tell which one has the bigger budget, not by the way the film is shot, but by the cast.  No budget horror flicks usually has a cast consisting of friends and family with no experience while bigger budget flicks can get a better cast.  This film has a great cast regardless of the budget.  The women are extremely beautiful and just as talented.  They carry almost all of the scenes in the film and really move the story along.  The male cast is solid but they are not the film's main focus and are only there to give the film some diversity.  My only complaint was from Roni Jonah.  I have seen her in several other films where she absolutely killed it but she didn't deliver in this one.  It could have been her character but she just didn't have the same fire and intensity I am accustomed to seeing her deliver on screen.  The story for this one is wild but flawed.  The thoughts of a shark possessing a young girl would have been pretty fun but having Satan possess the shark and the young girl at the same time is a bit of a stretch.  Sure, Satan can have any power he wants in film but possessing two things at once just feel even more ridiculous. Other than that I pretty much enjoyed the remainder of the story even though there was some things that could have been left out.  The film has just enough silly and enough blood to make it work if you are in the mood for an indie flick in the same line as a Troma movie.  Finally, the film does have some blood.  In fact, it has a lot of blood but the kills we get are pretty tame and mild for a film centered around a Satan possessed shark and teenage woman.  The practical effects are decent but very minimal.  However, the film has some visual effects that are not that great but I loved them.  Normally I bitch and complain about CGI but I loved the way the shark looked in this one.  Sadly, it was not used near enough as I would have liked.  Overall, Shark Exorcist is far from perfect flick but still entertains.  It has some severe flaws but if you go into it knowing it is far from perfect horror film then you may just enjoy yourself.
