How do you follow up a series like Killjoy? Most people would answer a Full Moon series with another Full Moon series but I had already made my way through the Evil Bong series just a few months back and decided on passing up another and hit up something a little different. I looked through my stack of film up for review and one quickly stood out to me. The film in question is Chris Seaver's follow up to his 2013 horror comedy Sexsquatch. This SRS Cinema's release was sent to me from my friends over at MVD. Before I checked it out I figured it would make sense to watch the first film so I pulled Sexsquatch: The Legend of Blood Stool Creek out of my collection and give it a spin.
The film follows a group of party goers who throw one of their own a "getting laid" party so he can finally lay some trim. They meet up at a friends house for a little drinking and juice swapping but quickly learn that they are not alone. An alien creature reminiscent of bigfoot, called a sexsquatch, has landed on Earth and plans on raping and killing everyone as part of a contest with another sexsquatch. The gang quickly learns that there is a sex party but it wont end with some stink on their pickles but with death.
If you have not seen a Chris Seaver film by this point in your life then you are clearly not living your life the right way. Chris is a man that clearly loved growing up in the 80s and a lot of his movies has fun references tossed in. Not long ago I was lucky enough to check out his black comedy The Weirdsies and was very impressed by how great it looked and how funny it was. I started out my Seaver collection with films like Mulva: Zombie Ass Kicker and Flithy McNasty so seeing Seaver create something that looked this good but kept the one liners and nostalgia factor high really made me want to get back into his films. Sexsquatch is one of Seaver's take on the 80s sex romp comedies like Porky's...and I fucking loved it. The acting in this one is exaggerated, in your face, and over-dramatic...and I fucking loved it. The cast does not have to show dedication, heart, or tons of experience. All they have to do is have fun and be a character other than themselves. They nailed it and it fits perfectly with the style of the film. The story for this one is a throwback to 80s sex comedies while throwing in some killer aliens and wrapping it in a bigfoot film. Seaver really had to enjoy himself when writing this one. Everyone scene is overflowing with memorable one liners, gags, campy horror cliches, and even a few pop culture references tossed in for good measure. It may not be a no budget equivalent to Aliens but it still delivers. Finally, if you are looking for entertaining kills then this film is for you. However, if you want great gore and effects then this is where the film comes off the rails so to speak. The kills are highly imaginative and fit eh sex bigfoot perfectly but the effects and execution is horrible. The film is a comedy first and foremost but some great effects would have knocked this one over the top. Overall, Sexsquatch is the kind of movie that Seaver will be known for. His writing is absolutely brilliant and he takes no budget and turns it into something funny. If you want a laugh while drinking some beer and eating pizza then this would be the one I recommend. Check it out.
