Not long ago I brought you a review for the no budget zombie splatter flick Midnight Skater (read the review here). The film was so bad that it was almost good and those are the kind of films I truly love. The film came in a box set with the 1990 film Skinned Alive and another film by director Lucas Campbell called Demon Summer. I was actually recommended Midnight Skater to review but I had no idea what Demon Summer was about. However, after I watched Midnight Skater I could not bare to suffer through another bad movie so I held off on watching this one until the mood hit...and it did.
The film begins when an old hermit has his booze taken by two thugs. They rough him up a bit forcing him to drop an old and mysterious book. The two take the book and leave the man to suffer. The following day the two thugs, along with a few more people, head out to go camping where they read from the book unleashing hell. The one that read the passage from the book becomes possessed and goes on a murderous rampage. Nearby a group of friends are fighting with a group of bullies when the possessed punk shows up forcing everyone to fight for their lives.
This movie was actually an improvement over Midnight Skater, however, it still fell short on entertainment. The film was just too boring at times making it almost impossible to pay attention. Too many scenes were dialogue rich instead of having any sort of interesting interactions or actions. Having something to say that was worth listening to would have saved this film in my opinion. The acting is a step up from Midnight Skater but still very amateurish. The entire cast needs a lot more experience to improve this. Finally, the film is packed with on screen kills. Sadly, the kills look bad but the demon looks fucking amazing. I am honestly surprised by how good he looks. Overall, if you like films that are so bad they are good then you may just enjoy this one. It deserves at least one watch but I wouldn't recommend buying it.
